The Foundation for the Development of Needy Communities:

Based in Mbale, FDNC was started and is led by Sam Watalatsu. Sam is our representative in Uganda and acts as our link with our partners in Kimaluli-Butta. Most importantly, to ensure that the money we send to Uganda is used for the purposes we intend, Sam exercises tight financial management and supervises the progress of the projects we are supporting. FDNC itself provides office accommodation and other support support to small NGO’s that are seeking to establish themselves. Its major in-house programme is now Nehemiah’s Farm. Nehemiah was Sam’s son, who sadly died a few years ago. He was interested in farming and so Sam established the farm in his memory. It is intended to be a model farm, demonstrating up-to-date methods of crop production and animal rearing, from which farmers and schools can learn. They recently initiated an agroforestry project, in which large numbers of tree seedlings are produced for use by local farmers to increase the tree stock on their land. Their most recent project is beekeeping to produce honey.
Workshops:

We support a number of workshops that employ members of the community who are traditionally marginalised, including single parents, disabled and other disadvantaged people. We buy their products and sell them at events in the UK to raise funds for KRDP projects.
Uganda Women’s Concern Ministry
UWCM works to support and empower women and girls in Mbale and the surrounding area. We have supported their work financially and also by buying craft items, particularly jewellery, that they produce to improve the women’s livelihood.
